![]() ![]() Many of those rifles were scrubbed of their German orgins and rebuilt. As a result this may have had some influecne on the German defeat in WWII and many of these K98 rifles were captured by the Soviet Russian forces and their Eastern allies. It was interesting because much of the German military wanted to advance to the autoloading platforms however, German leadership prevented this in many aspects. The rifle fought alongside fully automatic weapons and semi automatic weapons. It is iconic for shortening the overall length of the world famous Gewehr 98 rifle and firing the powerful and accurate 8mm Mauser (7.92×57). This rifle served the entire length of WWII and even in many nations after the war. Austria (part of Germany) along with Czechoslovakia and Yugoslavia also produce copies. The Poles were not the only nation to produce Karabiner 98 derivitives and copies. This rifle goes by many nicknames which include and are not limited to: ( Karabiner 98K, Kar98K, K98K) What is interesting is this rifle is often confused for the “K98” which really is a reference to the Polish K98AZ & K98A, a similiar rifle but not quite the same. German Karabiner 98 Kurz History: The Kar98K is arguably one of the most infamous and sought-after German military weapons in the world. “W” serial number prefix – batch informationĮagle over N – Bolt, receiver, barrel – Nitro proofed Not matching – Bolt sleeve, Front barrel band Matching #’s: Receiver, bolt, Extractor, Magazine floor plate, stock, ![]() In additional the serial number has a prefix of “W” indicating its batch. Our records indicate that the “duv” code was only used from 1940-1943. It also has a corresponding 41 mark indicating it was made in 1941. This K98K is coded “duv” which indicates it was manufactured by Berlin-Lübecker Maschinenfabrik. The bolt and bolt face look excellent and contribute to a nice smooth action. We did not see any active rust or any pits. The barrel looked great with a nice shine and mirror like finish. We noted the rifle has lots of blue finish intact with only light scratches and no major surface rust or patina to report. The stock appears to be matching (See photos) and retains much of its original finish with not many blemishes or dings to report.
